Following the call from Birmingham City Council for a solutions to their housing shortage Andy Cornaby MD and the Just Solutions design team set to work on designing an affordable property that would be fully completed in a factory environment and to be delivered to site on the back of a lorry and lowered into position. With so many issues to consider, size, living space, storage space, demographics, accessibility, size, materials, asset management friendly, NDSS compliant, thermal capability, energy source, heating, water etc. The journey to create a living space that was not only fit for purpose but complaint and desirable to live in.

The use of MMC to drive greater production efficiencies in the building process is a key strategic objective of Homes England - and so we support organisations such as Just Solutions who seek to promote the use of innovative house building solutions and good design to bring quality homes to the market supported by industry recognised warranties providing home owner confidence.

What We Did

On Monday June 10th the first ModPod a two storey, two-bedroom mono pitch pod that can sleep up to four people was delivered and lowered into place. At 12.30pm the ground floor was lowered into place swiftly followed by the first floor, successfully docked and secured and the property unveiled and ready to occupy by 4.pm the same day.

The sectors eyes were focused on how the project would unfold, having created ambitious USPs three years prior when BCC and Just Solutions joined together in partnership, finally Just Solutions had exceeded all expectations and the ModPod was born. Delivering a desirable, spacious living space that offered the new tenant, who downsized form a four bedroom general needs affordable rented property to a brand new state of the art home, releasing is previous home for a larger family off the current housing list.
